FOURTH WEEK OF CURRENT AFFAIRS - FEBRUARY 2022

  • Central government will continue the ‘Border Infrastructure and Management (BIM)’ scheme. This scheme aims to strengthen the border infrastructure for improving border management, policing and guarding the borders.
  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) participated in a joint air exercise ‘Eastern Bridge-VI’ at the Jodhpur Air Force Station in Rajasthan.
  • Indian Railways along Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), has Successfully commissioned India’s first Solar Photovoltaic Plant of 1.7-MegaWatt (MW) at Bina, Madhya Pradesh.
  • India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge called the ‘Anji Khad bridge’ is being constructed in Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) over the Anji river.
  • Government of India (GoI) is planning to promote “Heal by India” initiated to strengthen India’s educational institutions in the health sector and to enhance education to produce quality human resources in health.
  • Nepal and India have agreed to form a Joint Hydro Development Committee. The Committee will explore the development of viable hydropower projects in Nepal with a focus on storage.
  • The government of Assam is set to launch a 4-year mentorship programme – “Project Arohan” – to mentor the students of Assam and to hone their skills. The programme will be done with Tata STRIVE, the skill development initiative of Tata Trusts.

  • India’s 1st water taxi service has been inaugurated by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra.
  • Shri Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Asia’s biggest Bio-Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Galvanising Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (GOBAR-DHAN) in Indore, MadhyaPradesh.
  • Nepal has become the first country outside of India to adopt India’s UPI (Unified Payments Interface) system thus enhancing digitalization of cash transactions.
  • Indian music composer and singer, Bappi Lahiri (nickname: Disco King of India), has passed away in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
  • Padma Shri recipient Shakuntala Chowdhary passed away. Shakuntala Choudhary, also known as Shakuntala ‘Baideo’ (elder sister). She was an Indian social worker known for her commitment and devotion to the popularization of the Gandhian way of life.
  • Chief Ministem, Himanta Biswa Sarma launched India’s first Night Navigation mobile application (app) for ferry services on the Brahmaputra river in Guwahati

  • The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) declared the Aravalli Biodiversity Park in Gurugram, Haryana as India’s 1st ‘other effective area- based conservation measures’ (OECM) site.
  • Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 4.0 has been launched. This mission, under the Universal Immunization Program, aims to protect children and pregnant women from several diseases.
  • ASEAN (Association of SouthEast Asian Nations)- India High-Level Conference on Renewable Energy was organized by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India. Member countries of ASEAN – Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
  • India’s 1st commercial biomass-based hydrogen plant will be set up in Madhya Pradesh.
  • India and Australia has signed a MoU in the field of tourism to enhance cooperation and encourage expansion of bilateral relation.
  • Jaisalmer Desert Festival, also known as Maru Mahotsav of Jaisalmer (The Golden City of India) is celebrated in Rajasthan.
  • Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has decommissioned the INSAT-4B, an Indian communications satellite that forms part of the Indian National Satellite System.

  • Geological Survey of India (GSI), Ministry of Mines, approved the setting up of India’s 1st geopark at Lamheta village, on the banks of the Narmada River in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh (MP).
  • Spituk Gustor Festival, a two-day annual celebration of Ladakhi culture and traditional heritage began on 30th January 2022 in Leh and Ladakh Union Territory (UT).
  • India and Nepal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the construction of a motorable bridge over the Mahakali River connecting Dharchula (India) with Darchula (Nepal), under Indian grant assistance.
  • GAIL(India) Limited (Formerly known as Gas Authority of India Limited) has started India’s maiden project of mixing hydrogen into the natural gas system at Indore, Madhya Pradesh (MP).
