SEPTEMBER 1st WEEK 2021

  • Lieutenant Governor Radha Krishna Mathur inaugurated 1st Ladakh Nomadic Festival, a 2-day festival in the region of Changthang at Korzok Phu, Ladakh on 30th August, 2021. The event was organized by Ladakh Cultural Academy in association with the Department of Tourism.
  • Indian Navy has signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the manufacture and supply of India’s 1st indigenously developed Naval Anti Drone System (NADS) with both ‘hard kill’ and ‘soft kill capabilities.
  • On September 1, 2021, the popular festival of the Adi Tribe of Arunachal Pradesh namely ‘Solung’ began. Its celebrations will continue till 5 days. It is a harvest festival performed after sowing of seeds and transplantation, to seek for good crops.
  • In August 2021, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – National Institute of Oceanography (CSIRNIO) virtually signed a MoU with Russia’s A.V to strengthen mutual cooperation in capacity building & advancement of research in the field of marine science.
  • On 1st September 2021, 90 Indian Army took part in “KAZIND 21” – a joint military exercise between India and Kazakhstan at Aisha Bibi village of Kazakhstan.
  • India’s Ministry of Defence has announced that it signed a Project Agreement (PA) with the United States (US) Department of Defence in July 2021, for codevelopment of Air-Launched Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (ALUAV), under the Joint Working Group Air Systems in the Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI).
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 37th edition of PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) meeting and reviewed 8 projects and 1 scheme. PRAGATI is an ICT based communications multi-modal platform involving both the Centre and state governments.
  • India and Nepal signed a MoUs for the reconstruction of 14 cultural heritage and 103 health sector projects across different districts of Nepal, which were damaged by the 2015 earthquake. The projects will be reconstructed at a cost of 420 crore Nepalese Rupees.
  • Dr. Munjapara Mahendrabhai, Minister of State, Ministry of Ayush, launched the “Ayush Aapke Dwar” Campaign from Ayush Bhawan by distributing medicinal plants to staff.
  • Indian Army signed a Rs.100 crore worth contract with the Joint Venture between India’s Alpha Design & Israel’s Elbit Security Systems, for the procurement of over 100 – ‘SkyStrikers’ under its emergency procurement powers.
  • Bail Pola Festival 2021 was celebrated on September 6. Bail Pola festival or the festival of cattle, is a thanksgiving festival celebrated by the farmers to recognize and acknowledge the importance of oxen and bulls in agriculture and farming activities. The Bail Pola is also celebrated as Pola Amavasya in parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. ‘Bail’ in Marathi means ‘Bull’.
  • The World’s largest and tallest observation wheel named ‘Ain Dubai’ is set to be opened in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 21st October 2021. It is around 2 times taller than the London Eye, which will take the visitors to a Height of 250 meters.
  • Indira Gandhi International Airport also known as Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) led by GMR Group won 2 Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) National Energy Leader 2021 and Excellent Energy Efficient Unit 2021 at the 22nd National Award Ceremony for ‘Excellence in Energy Management” organized by CII Green Business Centre (GBC).
  • Union Minister of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy (AYUSH), Sarbananda Sonowal has launched Mobile Application–Y Break App from Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi as part of weeklong activities & campaigns to commemorate ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ from August 30th to September 5th.

 

SEPTEMBER 2nd WEEK 2021

  • Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in association with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) launched the “Main Bhi Digital 3.0”.
  • Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy R. K. Singh & Danish Minister for Climate, Energy, and Utilities Dan Jorgensen jointly launched ‘Centre of Excellence on Offshore Wind’ as part of the Green Strategic Partnership.
  • Haryana installs off-grid solar pumps under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Uttan Mahabhiyan (PM KUSUM).
  • Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Ministry of Civil Aviation launched ‘Medicines from the Sky (MFTS)’ in Vikarabad district of Telangana to send medicines to primary healthcare centers using drones.
  • The country El Salvador has passed a resolution to make Bitcoin as a legal currency alongside the US dollar on last June 2021 and bill was the approved by President Nayib Bukele.
  • Amazon Pay, a wholly owned subsidiary of Amazon in partnership with Kuvera, Investment platform will provide wealth management services to its 50 million customers across India.
  • A Sherpa is a personal representative of the leader of a member country at an international Summit meeting. That means Piyush Goyal will be India’s Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi’s Sherpa.
  • Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, a leading member of the Taliban has been appointed as the acting Prime Minister (PM) of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
  • Guinness World Records has honoured Portugal football player Cristiano Ronaldo for becoming the highest-scoring man in international football history.
  • United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)’s International Literacy Day (ILD) is annually observed across the globe on 8th September aiming s to highlight the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society. The theme of UNESCO’s ILD 2021 is “Literacy for a human-centered recovery: Narrowing the digital divide”
  • National Forest Martyrs Day is annually observed across India on September 11th to pay tribute to the people who laid down their lives to protect the environment, forests and wildlife across India.
  • Himalaya Diwas, also known as the Himalayan day is annually observed across India especially in Uttarakhand on 9th September to create awareness about the importance and significance of the Himalayas.
  • National Hindi Diwas is annually observed across India on September 14th to commemorate the adoption of Hindi in the Devanagari Script as one of the official languages of India.
  • Chief Minister (CM) of Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel launched the Millet Mission in the capital Raipur. He signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Millet Research 

SEPTEMBER 3rd WEEK 2021

  • Indian Armed Forces allowed the entry of female candidates into the armed forces through National Defense Academy (NDA) after the intervention of the Supreme Court (SC) of India.
  • Manipur’s Sirarakhong Chilli (Hathei Chilly) and Tamenglong Orange have received the Geographical Index (GI) tag. Chief Minister of Manipur, Nongthombam Biren Singh, announced it during the inaugural ceremony of the Van Dhan Vikas Kendra (VDVK) Mela, 2021, organized by the State Forest Department.

  • Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) started India’s first indigenous luxury cruise liner on 18th September 2021.

  • In September 2021, Iran was appointed as the 9th permanent member state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) at the 21st Meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

  • Writer Namita Gokhale Receives the 7th Yamin Hazarika Woman of Substance Award for the year 2021 during the virtual ceremony. The award was presented by a collective of women professionals from the year 2015, the annual award honors Yamin Hazarika, the first woman from Northeast India to be selected for DANIPS, a federal police service that administered Delhi and the Union Territories in 1977.

  • British author Susanna Clarke won the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2021 for her 2nd book, a fantasy novel titled “Piranesi”, a mystery about a man living alone in a labyrinthine house. The book was published by Bloomsbury Publishing. She published her debut novel “Jonathan Strange and Mr.Norrell” in 2004.
  • United Nations (UN)’s International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is annually observed across the globe on September 16th to create awareness about the importance of the Ozone layer in protecting the Earth from harmful rays of the sun.

  • National Engineers Day is annually observed across India on September 15th to mark the birth anniversary of eminent Engineer, Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.The day commemorates the achievements of engineers and encourages them for improvement and innovation.

SEPTEMBER 4th WEEK 2021

  • Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Minister of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, inaugurated the first edition of the 5-day Himalayan Film Festival (24th to 28th September 2021) organised by the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh.
  • The world’s highest Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station was inaugurated at 500 feet in Kaza, in the Spiti Valley, Lahaul and Spiti district, Himachal Pradesh. The charging station will support all EV Scooters and cars.
  • Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, former United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the UN Women, with the 2021 Global Goalkeeper Award to recognize the efforts taken by her to help achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals
  • Binoy Kumar Saikia, a senior scientist at CSIRNorth East Institute of Science and Technology (CSIR-NEIST), Jorhat, Assam, has won the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize (SSB) for Science and Technology 2021 for his pioneering research in the field of coal and energy.
  • Dr Rukmini Banerji, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pratham Education Foundation, India and Eric A. Hanushek, professor at Stanford University, has been awarded the 2021 Yidan Prize, the world’s highest education accolade, recognizing their work on improving the quality of education and outcomes for learners at scale.
  • United Nations (UN)’s International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL) is annually observed across the globe on 23rd September to create awareness about the importance of sign language in the full realization of the human rights of people who are deaf.
  • World Rivers Day is annually observed across the globe on the fourth Sunday of September to create awareness about water bodies and to promote the conservation of water bodies across the globe.
